Who Am I?
Welcome! Glad you've decided to visit.

My name is Rebecca and I have a confession: I’m totally obsessed with food. I constantly daydream about new recipes. I grew up in the beautiful city of Montreal, Canada; but now live in the Nation's Capital with my 13 year old rescue Chihuahua named Klick. I have my bachelor's in psychology and I hold a Graduate Diploma in Human Resources. I recently passed my exam to become a Certified Human Resources Professional, and have a full time job - However, I have always loved food and getting the chance to express my creative side in the kitchen.

I grew up having the pretty standard love/hate relationship with veggies. Through a combination of food restrictions and the internet, I've learned how to enjoy green things such as kale and squash, to the point where I've actually been seen devouring a whole bowl of them while standing in my kitchen with the fridge open.

*Gasp* What happened to me?

That being said; I have several food restrictions which make getting creative in the kitchen a necessity. I'm allergic to dairy (whey/casein) and I can't digest certain grains properly (wheat, barley, quinoa, rye). Dealing with these restrictions was very hard at first, because they're present in most of what we consider to be in our "standard diet." So I had to say bye-bye to mac n cheese, ice cream, cookies.. etc.. or so I thought.
While most of the food I make is healthy, I have discovered ways to make alternatives to these delicious comfort foods that I once grew up on.

I also went through a period where I thought that gluten was public enemy #1 (Eminem reference?). I quickly encouraged others that it was THE way to eat. I was so passionate about gluten being the “root of all evil," that I didn't realize that it was masking the underlying eating disorder. This was one of the many food restrictions that I think fed the disorder. Even though there are gluten-free alternatives (bread, flour...) I was quick to group ALL carbs into this category.

For a long time I did not give food (our body's fuel), the credit it deserved. I got to the point where I was severely underweight, and had a TON of food restrictions (some self-imposed). Food plays a MASSIVE role in how we think, move and feel, and it wasn't until I started incorporating different foods back into my diet that I really started to progress.

I am totally self-taught/father-taught, which means that I have no formal culinary training. I test most of my recipes at least once, but by no means claim to be a culinary genius. I have also been guilty of making things that I cannot actually eat (due to allergies). And in those cases, my friends and family have been my beloved and willing test-subjects.

I compete in powerlifting - but, when I'm not in the gym, in my spare time I love to read and spend time with my dog. And eating copious amounts of peanut butter. Obviously.

You will find all sorts of things within these pages – from healthy recipes to comfort food and indulgent desserts; as well as the opportunity to follow me along on my (occasional) restaurant excursions.

I hope to make you love cooking healthy food as much as I do :)
